Interior Design for Productivity

The right office design shouldn’t just allow for productivity, it should encourage it. You want to create the kinds of spaces where employees can get their work done in a timely, effective manner.

The right office design shouldn’t just allow for productivity, it should encourage it. You want to create the kinds of spaces where employees can get their work done in a timely, effective manner. Creating functional office spaces is more important than ever, as some workers may have the luxury of working from home but still use their office as a go-to location for putting their nose to the grindstone. From furniture, colors, lighting, and beyond, there are so many interior design choices that can make an impact on the productivity of the employees who use the space.

Color Choices

There is plenty of evidence that the colors around us have an influence on our mood and mindset. Not just the shades, but even the intensity can totally transform how we interact with a space. Best practice is to avoid overly bright colors, as they can increase our stress levels and make us more anxious. You also want to avoid bright, stark whites, which can feel clinical and cold. On the other hand, neutral colors can feel calmer and darker colors are great cozy accents. Build your palette based on what you’re drawn to.

Light It Up

Your office interior design should seek to get away from the typical fluorescent lighting that you see in every other drab office. These lights are incredibly bright and loud, creating a distraction for everyone in the office. Instead, do your best to cultivate natural light; choosing an office location with large windows is a great option if possible. Otherwise, you want to consider some neutral overhead lighting, floor lamps, and desk lights, as more options can empower employees to light their space how they want to. Cooler lights are generally recommended for productivity.

Ergonomic Furniture

No one wants to spend four hours grinding away at a project only to realize that their entire body hurts as a result. Look into ergonomic furniture; the right chair can help keep you comfortable even when you’re pushing through the workday. Standing desks can be a good option too, so employees can take a break, stand up to stretch some, and continue being productive throughout the day.
