It’s Just About Time for Spring Cleaning in the Office!

spring cleaning in the office

Don’t forget about your office furniture when you’re writing your spring cleaning to-do list!

Despite the blanket of snow that surprised many of us last week, spring is right around the corner. Temperatures should be back on the rise this week, with some spring showers sprinkled in, and that’s good enough for us to start thinking about springtime. Of course, as is true every spring, that warmth also means it’s time for spring cleaning! This year, don’t forget to keep your office and office furniture in mind when creating your spring cleaning to-do list.

Dust and Disinfect

Let’s attack this layer by layer. First, think about what’s resting on the surface of your furniture. Areas that aren’t touched frequently are likely gathering a nice blanket of dust, while areas that are touched frequently are liable to accumulate germs and grime with common contact. Dust is a very common allergen that might be making you sneeze in the office, while the germs on your keyboard or phone might be making you sneeze with a cold. Give your office a good dusting and vacuuming to take care of airborne allergens, and then a solid once-through with sanitizing wipes will eliminate 99.9% of germs, as is likely promised on the container.

Working with Wood

Now let’s take a look at the surface of your furniture itself. Over time, wood office furniture can start to fade or lose its luster. If this is the case, you can revitalize these pieces while spring cleaning in the office. It might need a little elbow grease and sanding, or it might just need a fresh coat of stain or varnish. Polishing for a finishing touch will leave your wood office furniture looking good as new.

Upping Upholstery

Whether leather or cloth, your upholstered chairs or couches can start to look pretty dingy with long-term use. Chair cushions and fabrics are also liable to trap more of those airborne allergens, releasing a puff of dirt every time you sit down. There are plenty of store-bought cleaning supplies to tackle deep stains or ground-in dirt — just take a peek around the web to find out what’s best for your particular piece of furniture and the materials it’s made from.

After a good round of spring cleaning in the office, your furniture will not only look better, but it will feel better and last longer. You’ll notice that cleaner working spaces are more productive ones. If you don’t believe us, just give it a try and see for yourself. You won’t regret it.
